About Me
Hi there, welcome to my site! This is just a simple site I created to let people know about my tutoring services. My name is Majid Hasan, and Iām a graduate of the KU School of Law and a professional tutor. I have years of experience tutoring, a deep understanding of these exams, and people use me because I get students results.
I started out teaching standardized tests in 2006 at Kaplan Test Prep. At first I taught the LSAT, the Law School Admissions Test, and then quickly moved on to the ACT and SAT. After finishing undergrad at KU, I moved back to Kansas City, my hometown, and started working at the Kauffman Foundation. Soon after, I was also working at Get Smarter Prep, a test prep company here in Overland Park. During my second year of law school, I began tutoring on my own. All in all, I have nearly 8 years of experience teaching classrooms and tutoring one-on-one.
Since tutoring on my own, I've built up a significant number of clients purely through word of mouth. I like to think this is because I leave my students (and their parents of course!) highly satisfied with my services. Chances are if your child attends school in the Overland Park/Kansas City area, they know class mates who've used my services.
My Teaching Philosophy
In my opinion, the ACT and SAT should be taught differently than academic subjects in school are taught. These tests are highly repetitive and highly coachable. Once in a Physics class I took, we students had long since figured out that the professor's homework was exactly the same semester after semester; only the individual numbers in the questions were different. This meant that every question was done the same way and all we had to do was substitute the different numbers in. These tests are the same way. There are only so many different types of questions. The way to improve is to simply learn the types of questions, how to recognize them, and learn the simple steps to arrive at the right answer. I teach students how to recognize the different types of questions and the steps to answer them. The types of questions that appear on the tests are the same from test to test. Anyone, with some coaching and practice, can improve their scores using this method.
I employ a very laid back, no pressure attitude towards both my teaching and my teaching business. I assign a good amount of work, but students generally like working with me because I create a very easy going environment in which students are free to make mistakes. I've always been good at explaining things in a way everyone can understand. I'm the same way with my business approach to teaching. If you are interested in tutoring for your son or daughter, please feel free to call or email me. I'll answer whatever questions you have about my services, will give you solid and honest advice about how you should proceed, supply you with free practice exams, and never pressure you in anyway. Please give me a shout anytime. Contact me.
